Dr. Samuel Kalibala Book Reading and Discussion

WHAT: Dr. Samuel Kalibala will be reading from his new book, "Ambitions and Keeping Up Appearances in the Making of a Doctor." The semi-autobiographical collection of six short stories chronicles the life of the Ugandan boy Musa as he transitions from an adolescent having barely enough money to pay for school to a full-fledged doctor – all against the backdrop of tribalism, colonialism, and the dictatorship of Idi Amin Dada. Along with reading from his book, Dr. Kalibala will be sharing the stories behind the stories of faith, hope, and perseverance during a discussion led by C.J. Ray. Audience participation will be encouraged, and light snacks will be served.

WHO: Dr. Samuel  Kalibala is a physician who specializes in international public health and has been a member of Takoma Park Presbyterian Church for 13 years. In his free time, he is a primary health care missionary who raises funds to support health care outreach to remote rural areas in his native Uganda.

C.J. Ray is a substitute Spanish Teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools. He formerly worked in International Development and is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Togo. He is a new member this year of Takoma Park Presbyterian Church.
