Mark Charles, theologian, Reformed pastor, trainer, consultant, and author is coming to TPPC on December 3-4. 

TPPC's Committed Racial Mindfulness Initiative is organizing events featuring Mark Charles, theologian, reformed pastor, trainer, consultant, and author on December 3-4.

Mark is co-author of Unsettling Truths: The Ongoing Dehumanizing Legacy of the Doctrine of Discovery.  He is a renowned authority on the Doctrine of Discovery, and its influence on US history and modern society.  Mark is the son of an American woman (of Dutch heritage) and a Navajo man; he teaches with insight into the complexities of American history regarding race, culture, and faith to help forge a path of healing and conciliation for the nation.  

TPPC is sponsoring a series of events led by Mark Charles; all of these events will be held in the church sanctuary:  

  1. Saturday, December 3, 9:30 a.m. – Noon: Seminar with Mark Charles titled Confronting the Unholy Cultural Fraud, The Doctrine of Discovery. This seminar can be accessed over Zoom.

  2. Sunday, December 4, 11 a.m., Morning Worship Service:  Mark Charles, preacher. Sermon title: Radical Inclusion. Our worship services can also be accessed over Zoom.

  3. After the worship service, there will be more conversation with Mark Charles. 

To prepare for these sessions, there was an Adult Sunday School discussion (via Zoom) on Sunday, November 20, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. about the Doctrine of Discovery. More information can be found in the TPPC Blog.

His book with Soong-Chan Rah, "Unsettling Truths: The Ongoing, Dehumanizing Legacy of the Doctrine of Discovery", is available at libraries and can be purchased online.
