Jiñocuao Survives One Hurricane, But Now Faces Another

TPPC has received a letter from our sister parish in Jiñocuao with news that they survived Hurricane Eta but were facing a second hurricane named Iota.

"We inform you that, thanks to God, we are well, despite the onslaught of Hurricane Eta, which hit with heavy and incessant rains. We do not have lives to mourn in our community. There were no deaths in Nicaragua as there were in the other Central American countries, but yes, the heavy rain has affected our crops, especially corn, with little productive yield and some have not sprouted. The cultivation of beans has also been affected. Access roads between the different community sectors of Jiñocuao have been affected. There is difficulty when traveling, a lot of mud, many cracks and in certain sections there have been stretches of roads cut by gullies."

They said they were expecting a second hurricane with an 80 percent chance that it will hit their territory and ask for our prayers. That hurricane -- Hurricane Iota -- hit Nicaragua Tuesday, causing much damage and at least six deaths but we do not yet know its impact on Jiñocuao. We are waiting for news.

They also want us to know they are praying for us.

"We want to tell you that we are praying for you. We know from the news that COVID-19 has had a new upsurge in your country. We are threatened globally, we do not know for sure if the vaccine against this virus comes to our community but we do know that only our God protects us and continues to protect us."
