George Peck Lynching Memorial Unveiling on October 22

TPPC's Committed Racial Mindfulness (CRM) Ministry’s Learning and Sharing Subgroup invites you to attend the George Peck Lynching Memorial Unveiling on Sunday, October 22 at 3:00 p.m. in Poolesville, MD. This event is sponsored by the Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project (https://www.mocolmp.org/), part of the statewide Maryland Lynching Memorial Project and a designated Community Remembrance Project of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, AL.

This is the first historical marker in Montgomery county to acknowledge a racial terror lynching. Mr. George Peck was murdered by a mob in Poolesville in 1880, one of three lynchings that took place in Montgomery County.

This event is truly a historic occasion and will take place on the lawn next to the Poolesville Presbyterian Church across the street from where the lynching took place. (If it rains, the event will be held a block away at the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Road.) The program begins at 3 p.m., followed by a reception at Locals Farm Market (across the street) for simple refreshments and conversation.

Parking is plentiful and will be clearly marked.
