2022 Advent and Christmas Events

Lighting the Advent candle is an Advent tradition at TPPC

Takoma Park Presbyterian Church will host a number of events to celebrate Advent and Christmas. A list of these activities appears below; this list will be updated as more details become available.

  • A Family Christmas Eve service with carols and candle lighting will be held at 5 pm on December 24th.

  • A Christmas Day service of prayer and carol-singing will be held on December 25th at 11 a.m. Feel free to come in your pajamas – or, if you prefer, in your Victorian best!

  • The first communion service of 2023 will be held on Sunday, January 8th starting at 11 AM. A bible study on the Book of Acts will continue that morning at 9:30 AM.


Past Advent and Easter Events

  • Volunteers decorated the sanctuary for Advent and Christmas on Saturday, November 26th starting at 2 PM. Refreshments will be provided.

  • Takoma Park Presbyterian Church hosted the 24th Alternative Gift Fair on Saturday, December 3 from Noon to 4 PM. Meet with representatives from 14 wonderful charities and learn about their missions and the gifts they are offering. For more information about the event, access the Alternative Gift Fair website.

  • TPPC's Committed Racial Mindfulness Initiative is organized events featuring Mark Charles, theologian, reformed pastor, trainer, consultant, and author on December 3-4. For more information, access the TPPC blog post on Mark Charles.

  • A choral worship service was presented on Sunday, December 11th, featuring selections from Handel’s Messiah. The TPPC Choir with guest musicians will be directed by Dr. James Bingham.

  • A children’s Christmas pageant is being planned for Sunday, December 18th, at 9:30 AM in the Assembly Room.

  • Congregation members went Christmas Caroling on Sunday, December 18th starting at 2:00 PM at Victory Towers. After caroling there, our group gathered at the Takoma Park Gazebo around 3:00 PM. There was a gathering for carolers that started at about 4 PM.

  • The Ministry of Worship is providing an opportunity to purchase a poinsettia plant to decorate our sanctuary on Christmas Eve, which may be dedicated in honor of someone or in memory of someone. For more details and an order form, access the Poinsettia page.

  • Four Taize-style Vespers Services will be held during Advent on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary (also available on Zoom), beginning November 30th and running through December 21st. For more details, access this blog post.
